In 2026, KICK & CARE – Fußball hilft welcomes “Wegbereiter”, a project of the Bernkastel/Wittlich hospital group, into its circle of supported projects – true to its motto “Together. Health. Shaping.”

With the project “Wegbereiter” (Pathfinders), KICK & CARE – Fußball hilft welcomes an initiative into its circle of partners for 2026 that is dedicated to strengthening regional healthcare for the long term.
Wegbereiter is a fundraising and support project of the Verbundkrankenhaus Bernkastel/Wittlich – born of the conviction that medical care is a task for society as a whole, one that must be carried by community, responsibility and solidarity. True to its motto TOGETHER. HEALTH. SHAPING., the project calls on citizens to play an active part in healthcare in the region.
Taking responsibility – together
The project sees itself as a platform for everyone willing to contribute to the further development of modern medical care. After all, many important healthcare measures go beyond regular funding structures:
- modern medical technology
- additional treatment capacity
- extended care services
- patient-centred infrastructure
- innovative health projects
This is where Wegbereiter comes in – through donations, commitment and joint action.
What a community can really achieve
A milestone the project has already reached shows the impact this commitment can have: the expansion of the stroke unit from six to ten beds. A highly relevant medical expansion, made possible by the hospital’s own funds and around 120,000 euros in donations – a powerful example of what shared responsibility in healthcare can achieve.
More capacity means:

- more intensive care
- lasting improvements to regional healthcare
