A matter of the heart – with long-term, lasting support

nestwärme gives families of seriously ill or disabled children exactly what everyday life so often lacks: support, relief and humanity. With heart, experience and a strong network, the Trier-based organisation stands by families where the challenges are great and strength is running low.

A home away from home, a listening ear, helping hands – nestwärme is there. Reliable. Close. And full of compassion.

Through our long-term, lasting support we back a project that does more than fill gaps – it opens up new paths for children, their families and a strong sense of togetherness.

At families’ side since 1999

Since 1999, nestwärme e.V. Deutschland has been supporting families of children and young people with disabilities or life-limiting illnesses – with heart, expertise and passion.

Founded in Trier by Petra Moske and Elizabeth Schuh – the organisation is still based there today – a grassroots initiative has grown into a non-profit social enterprise active across Germany. Today nestwärme is carried by more than 110 employees, around 1,600 volunteers and a strong European network.

#JAFürjedesKind – yes to every child

nestwärme firmly believes that every child and every family is a valuable part of our society – equal, welcome and seen. For families going through particularly difficult times, nestwärme offers tailored support in nursing care, education, children’s hospice work and psychosocial counselling. The goal is to help shape a society with more togetherness, inclusion and participation for all.

The nestwärme children’s and youth hospice

A special milestone in Trier: the nestwärme children’s and youth hospice. From September 2026 it opens its doors to affected families from the Greater Region, adding an in-patient hospice service to the existing outpatient paediatric nursing care.

For the first time, this creates an in-patient service for children’s hospice work. Families will find not only medical and nursing care, but also a place for respite, support and encounters – a listening ear for siblings and a compassionate heart in times of grief. A place where families can find peace, breathe again and gather new strength.

Why every donation counts

In-patient children’s hospice work in Germany relies permanently on donations. Many services that are essential to running the hospice – such as psychosocial care for children and families or support for siblings from qualified staff – are not covered by health insurers or other funding bodies. nestwärme therefore depends on donations every year to secure this vital work for the long term.

That is why nestwärme counts on the solidarity of the Greater Region. nestwärme e.V.’s facilities and long-term services, such as the nestwärme Haus, thrive on exactly this kind of community spirit – on people who get involved, help out and show through their commitment that no child and no family is left alone in difficult times.
